	Why Handcrafted, Natural Soaps? Did you know that commercially manufactured soaps contain petroleum products, alcohols, synthetics and preservatives? Soaps and lotions widely advertised as being the most moisturizing can still be irritating and drying to your skin and even cause allergic reactions. Many bars of soap sold in stores are not even really soap - they are detergent bars. These detergent bars are made with cheap ingredients such as petroleum oils and are mass produced with added preservatives. Commercial manufacturers also remove the beneficial and moisturizing natural glycerin from their bars to put into their more expensive skin care products. These products are more drying and less beneficial than a real soap made from natural oils. Natural, hand made soap is carefully crafted a little at a time out of food quality oils, nut butters, herbs, spices, essential oils, plant (and some animal) ingredients. Some of our products contain honey, beeswax, Goat's Milk and/or Emu or Ostrich oil. These products are clearly noted so that you as the consumer can make an informed decision. Isn't there lye in home made soap? All soap is made with lye, but there is no lye remaining in the finished product. Soap making is a chemical reaction. The oils and lye combine molecules during the process and create a new substance - soap (and as a bonus - glycerin, a great moisturizer). Simple Soothings handmade soaps are superfatted with extra amounts of oils to nourish and moisturize your skin! All of our soaps are superfatted from five to eight percent. Our soaps contain different combinations of oils and ingredients which may include olive, coconut, avocado, castor, canola, and/or palm oils; shea butter, cocoa butter and/or mango butter. Synthetic fragrance oils and colorants are added to many of our products, but we also offer our butt naked line of unscented and uncolored products as well. Some products contain oatmeal or herbs to aid in exfoliating dead skin cells, while others contain additives such as flower petals which are just plain pretty (and safe).
